When was psalm 32 written
This is a great blessing that comes from being forgiven and having fellowship restored. When fellowship was restored, the blessing of such close relationship could be enjoyed again. Many modern translators put the sense as merely God watching over the believer, which is true. Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding : The horse and the mule are used as examples of animals that are not easily guided.
They need the bit and bridle , and sometimes rigorous training, before they are useful to the master. Do not be like them ; do not oblige your Maker to have continual recourse to afflictions, trials, and severe dispensations of providence, to keep you in the way, or to recover you after you have gone out of it.
Else they will not come near you : David understood this to describe his condition in his season of unconfessed sin — he was like a stubborn animal that could only be guided through pain or severity. God allowed the Amalekites to devastate David and his men 1 Samuel God sent Nathan to speak sharply to David in his sin 2 Samuel Like a stubborn animal, David would not come near to God until he had these terrible experiences.
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; but he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him : David understood what it was to live at least for a season as the wicked , and the sorrows that came with it. The repentant David then had a renewed experience of the mercy of God surrounding him. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice : This psalm gives repeated and compelling reasons for the believer to be glad , to rejoice , to shout for joy. Our website uses cookies to store user preferences.

Share Psalm 86— David is in the deepest sorrow of his life, everything around him feels heavy. Think of your worst possible situation. David knows he has sinned greatly against God and he also knows the consequences will be severe and in the midst of this he says:.
But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. God could do anything He wants. Not with a condition or contingency, he just Forgives. Psalm — This is a Psalm of ascent to be said as they ascended the steps to the Temple, a glorious time of rejoicing for them. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.
TODAY is the perfect day to begin. Whether it is January or December JUMP in. Loss of a clear conscience and a right heart: v. Joylessness: v. Loss of praise: v. Damage to his usefulness in ministry: v. But v. For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Think about David during those months. His kingdom was booming.
His fame in the world and favor with the people was better than ever. But he was dying inside. He was wasting away. There may even have been a smile on his face, but in his heart he was groaning in pain. Because of his sin? Well, it was because, in response to his sin, God was pressing on him. This pressure is arduous and grueling, but it is a blessing from God. And not something He gives to everyone. What a curse it is when God allows someone to run off in sin without experiencing any consequences, without feeling any guilt, without anything to alert them to the danger ahead.
Repentance is necessary. Granted, there is a sense in which our future sin is already forgiven. But there is another sense in which our sins are forgiven as they are repented of. And neither of these should drown out the other. In Psalm 32 we are focusing on a forgiveness which is dependent on repentance.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. As believers we have a precious treasure: we know that if we humble ourselves before God, if we repent of our sin before Him, we will ALWAYS be met with grace and forgiveness.
Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. Three time repetitions are a literary technique for expressing maximum emphasis. So the volume is turned all the way up here: how supremely blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered, the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity. Notice that even though David has some heavy things to say about the weight of his sin, his strongest words are reserved for glorying in the forgiveness of God.
Even our moral outrage over our own sin must never be as loud as our exhilaration over the atoning work of Christ to cleanse us from that sin. This is the gospel, the good news! The basis for our forgiveness, of course, is that our sins are covered by the blood of Christ.
What if the baby is a picture of Christ in this story? The baby IS the son of David. And he does die for the sins of others. Psalm 32 is a happy psalm. Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
