Said bandits tried to kill me. Only when I slaughtered all the bandits did Kematu suddenly come up to me and say, "Gee, I don't want anyone to get killed! Kematu's vocal inflections led me to think he was lying though it could just be crappy voice acting lol. Kematu offered zero evidence to support his allegations. In fact, he wouldn't even describe what specifically she did to sell her city out.

Ok, I finally get that it seems odd to many that she would be punished for speaking out against the thalmor. However considering a major figure in skyrim is a sleeper agent for the thalmor, it wouldn't surprise me if this group of redguard could also be rogue. In fact, by their aggression I would expect it. Also, ulfric never worked for the thalmor, in fact he liberated markarth from the forsworn at the request of the previous jarl of markarths son his father was killed by the forsworn , who agreed to allow the worship worship of talos after the city was liberated.

The thalmor had nothing to do with anything going on in markarth, and the only time ulfric has had any contact with them was when he was their prisoner, after that he was never "in cahoots" with them. Also the claim that he killed anyone in markarth other than the forsworn is thought to be imperial propaganda. Why would he kill innocent nords who he hopes to lead in a rebellion? That wouldn't give him much public support. And in regards to ulfric being a thalmor sleeper agent, if that is who you mean, if you read his dossier its clear that the thalmor are in no way controlling or having any contact with him, its just that his rebellion is weakening the empire, which benefits the thalmor more than anything.

Now to address once again the status of thalmor in skyrim and hammerfell. I realize that the thalmor were recently pushed out of both hammerfell and skyrim. The problem with the logic you've presented is that it implies that no one will ever get in trouble, within the boarders of hammerfell, for speaking out against the thalmor. As Slade said here, her urn is in Whiterun, if you side with Kematu, meaning that while she might be taken back alive, she gets an execution at some point. And as stated, the Thalmor don't have the right to just kidnap people in Skyrim, they would have to hire someone else to capture her.

This is why I believe Saadia. So to break it down, Kematu's Alik'r are mercenaries that made 2 groups feel threatened, they were most likely hired by the Thalmor to capture Saadia and bring her back, and Kematu lies to you out of desperation in the cave, after you've destroyed his forces.

Side with the Alik'r and Saadia will be executed. I'm going with Saadia, she's not hanging out in a damn cave, even that is pretty friggin suspicious!

I thought this was pretty black and white at first, and sided with Kematu, but as someone previously stated, you find Saadia's burial urn in the hall of the dead in Whiterun. She was supposed to be taken back alive for a trial. One thing that also bothered me was that to find out where Kematu is, you have to visit the Whiterun prison to talk to a captured Alik'r.

He never really tells you why he was captured, he just says he has shamed the Alik'r for being captured, they are supposed to be "the best of the best" he says. Best at what? Yeah, I'm on Saadia's side, the other thing that made me want to believe her is that if she helped the Aldmeri Dominion she could be fine under their protection, they're pretty freaking strong that and the fact she was a noble and became a tavern wench to live in hiding rather than staying a noble gives some credibility to her defense.

The rest of your points make a lot of sense though — l I. However, you must consider that the Alik'r have curved swords. If you have already cleared out Swindler's Den, a dialogue option will appear when talking to Saadia that will reveal to her that you know where they are, allowing you to skip this part of the quest.

Upon reaching Swindler's Den , you'll find that it's full of bandits. Make your way through the network of tunnels, killing every bandit in your way until you reach a passage with a waterfall.

As soon as you walk through the wall of water, the Alik'r leader Kematu should initiate a conversation. He claims that Saadia is wanted for treason, for selling Hammerfell out to the Aldmeri Dominion.

If you still want to help Saadia, you'll have quite a fight on your hands. At least four Alik'r Warriors will assist Kematu, often more. However, use of the Mayhem spell here makes the fight a breeze.

Fighting the host of Alik'r warriors can be made easier by using the bear traps at the mouth of the winding path that leads into the cave where Kematu awaits. The warriors get hung up in the path, allowing the traps to be reset.

Success is facilitated by focusing on your high-offense attack while retreating. Once your stamina or magic is depleted, turn and run for the traps, being careful to jump over them as you pass.

It is also possible to simply exit the conversation with Kematu or tell him that you will help lure Saadia away , sneak into the room just ahead, and snipe all the warriors with your bow. Once the Alik'r are dead, loot Kematu's corpse for bonus gold, then go get your reward from Saadia. If you decide to help the Alik'r capture Saadia, Kematu or the Redguards with whom you spoke in Rorikstead will ask you to lure her to the stables outside of Whiterun.

Go back and talk to Saadia in The Bannered Mare and ask her to follow you. Once she gets to the stables, Kematu will use a paralysis spell on her. Talk to him for your reward. While Kematu and Saadia are talking at the stables, you can still kill Kematu before he casts the spell on Saadia. This will get you the reward from Saadia and the gold that Kematu is carrying, without having to fight the rest of the Alik'r.

If you kill him after he casts the spell, however, Saadia will attack you when she gets back up. Alternatively, allow Kematu to cast the spell on Saadia and collect the gold reward, thus ending the quest, then kill Kematu to undo the spell on Saadia.

At this point, Saadia will be hostile right away, so use a Calm spell on her, then talk to her, and she will give you the gold reward for killing Kematu.

You can then loot Kematu's body to get gold, his attire, and his sword. Once the Calm spell ends, Saadia will become hostile again - this is a permanent state, so even if you leave the area, she will attack the next time you meet her. Kill her and then loot her body. Don't worry about a bounty, since she provoked you to attack. She will also have gold and jewels.
